Theme: Right to Education
According to the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner states: Human Rights are inherent to all human beings regardless of nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language etc. Human Rights are universal and are often expressed and guaranteed by law, international law and through treaties. They include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education etc. Human Rights internationally, lays down the laws and regulations in order to protect the human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals and groups.
The Right to Education has been recognized as the right to free, compulsory primary education with the right to develop secondary education along with being qualified to receive higher education. The right to education includes a responsibility to provide the fundamentals and basic education for those who haven’t completed primary education (high school or college/university level). Education is the basic human right for all individuals and helps further the access of other human rights. Education reduces poverty, decreases social inequalities and helps each individual reach their full potential in all kinds of ways. Having the right to education helps a country become sustainable and achieve everlasting rights, that will help individuals in the long run.
